Government to meet with carriers today

The Ministers of Economic Affairs, Finance and Transport are meeting this Monday with the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC) to study the situation of the sector, which is the protagonist of an indefinite strike that today celebrates its first week and threatens to cause shortages. The meeting with the sectorial body that acts as interlocutor with the Government will take place at the Ministry of Transport and will be attended by the First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño; the Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero, and the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez. The CNTC asks the Executive to adopt “immediate” economic measures to reduce the impact of the increase in fuel prices on the sector and demands that the right to work of the hauliers who have decided not to go on strike be guaranteed. The National Road Transport Committee brings together large fleet operators and shippers that represent 15% of the companies in the sector, while the other 85% is made up of self-employed and SMEs, according to the Platform for the Defense of the National and International Road Freight Transport Sector. This platform is the one that has called the indefinite strike, which is causing increasing problems in the supply chain of some products and has forced a large police force to prevent pickets from preventing the work of those who do not support the protest. The members of the collective say they do not feel represented in the CNTC and have reiterated that they will not call off the strike until they are received by the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sanchez.
